Male or female pigeon determining is a process of determining the sex of young pigeons. It is a tricky process, but not an impossible one. There are methods used by pigeon fanciers to determine the sex of their birds. These include feather examination, infra-red photography, and ultrasound scanning. These methods can be used if you know what to look for when examining feathers and scanning with infra-red or ultrasound machines.
Male Or Female Pigeon Determining process:
Monitor their Behavioral characteristics:
The Female pigeons are quiet and peaceful. The female pigeons are more introverted than the male pigeons. The female pigeon is generally not aggressive and tends to exhibit more submissive behavior. The male pigeons can be aggressive and can be quite dominant in the flock. When you keep multiple males in a single cage it is best to separate them from one another so that they can be given enough space to prevent unwanted fighting.
The appearance of the pigeon:
Male pigeons are generally bigger than female pigeons of the same breed. The female pigeon can only emit a dull squeal in comparison to the loud squawk of a male pigeon. The male pigeons have bigger feet than the female pigeons. This is efficient for them, as they are excellent fliers that have been recorded traveling up to speeds of 100km an hour.
The male pigeons can fly faster and more efficiently than the female pigeon because their muscular and long body gives them an advantage over the smaller female pigeon.
Monitor the Toe:
The female pigeons are not equal to side fingers but males have side fingers are equal to the front fingers. The back finger is generally smaller in both males and females pigeons. The male toe is longer and larger than the female. This is primarily because the male pigeon uses his toe to grab and hold on to the female. The female’s toes are not as long or as large.
Listen to Their Sound:
The male pigeons bow and scrape and The females are generally less vocal than the males. The males are more vocal than the females when they are excited. The female pigeons have higher-pitched voices and emit weaker squeals
There are many signs you can look for to determine if your pigeon is male or female. Feathers on a male pigeon will be bigger than female feathers. Male pigeons will have larger heads, which are covered in feathery tufts. Female pigeons’ feathers cover their head and body more closely and they will have smaller heads than the males. Male pigeons due to their physical features require more food than females do to maintain their body weight.
You can only get DNA analysis done if you have a sample of the parent pigeons. The DNA analysis is not reliable because different traits are sometimes duplicated in the same pigeon. Results might not be precise either.
A very precise method of determining sex is by using infrared photography, but this method involves cutting and splicing and you have to know how to do it properly or you may end up damaging your birds.
Male pigeons are bigger, have larger feet, and are generally more aggressive than a female pigeons. Female pigeons only make a dull squeal in comparison to the male’s loud squawk. Female pigeons generally are more docile than a male pigeons.
Female pigeons have smaller heads and less feathery tufts than their male counterpart. The female pigeons do not have side fingers that are equal to the front fingers like their male counterpart, but they have back fingers that are equal to their front finger.
